"Lazy dog"

Oh hi! It's been a while since I've felt like posting anything. These days in my old age of 15, I just truly enjoy snoozing, eating, then snoozing some more. But today I'm in the mood to say hello!!!

Life has been pretty good. My human brothers interact with me quite a bit. The other day one of them tried to make me hold their jump-rope. Like, put it under my paw so I could hold it. Do I want to hold their jump rope? Not really. Do I like being included in their games? Kinda. Do I enjoy watching safely from a distance while I can comfortably snooze if I want to? Absolutely yes.

With my human brothers noticing me more comes good and bad. The other day one of my brothers, who doesn't usually say a lot, looked at me and said "YOU'RE A LAZY DOG!" Hurtful? Slightly. True. Also yes.

But that same little guy somehow figured out how to open the front door on his own. Not great. Mom put a super high up lock to make sure he stays in, but forgot to lock it a few days ago. Human brother opened up the front door while mom was in the next room. I saw what was happening and my old bones jumped into action! I ran in front of him and put myself between him and the outside stoop while barking super loud so mom would know to come running. Mom was very thankful for my heroics and honestly she seemed a little shocked. See, people think I'm just a "lazy dog," but my instincts will always be to protect my family. I will protect them from strangers. I will protect them from squirrels. I will protect them from danger. And I will protect them from bunnies. My family is mine and I am theirs.

There's something that's so beautiful about being a part of a family. There is this infinite love that cannot be replicated. We all get on each other's nerves but in the end, I'll jump off the couch and run between them and any amount of danger. Even if I would prefer to snooze. We make sacrifices for each other and I think that's truly beautiful.
