Rough Day

I gotta be honest…. This has been a really rough day. My brother, Cohen, has been feeling sick and acting kinda strange (don’t worry- he’s okay) so Mom took him to the Vet this morning to get him some medicine. Sounds simple enough right? Not for my anxious brain. When Mom and Cohen left, I was all by myself. BY MYSELF! ALONE!. Everyone gone. Me stranded. Let me tell you…. It wasn’t pretty. I panicked barked for a solid 2 hours until Mom and Cohen got home. Logically, I knew Mom & Cohen would eventually come home, but my emotional mind was telling me they left me forever and I would never see them again. Obviously, the emotional side won. It took me about 45 minutes to calm down once they got home. I was panting hard trying to get my breathing right, but wow, it took a while. My body and mind were a mess.
Here’s the thing. Sometimes our brain just sorta burp. We think we’re getting better, then something sidelines us, and we feel like we’re back to square one. Truth be told, we’re not. I’m not. I just had a rough day.
I can either beat myself up internally for not being perfect or I can use it as a lesson and move on. When Mom and Cohen leave, they come back. Now I know that.
Right here and now, it’s a Saturday afternoon, the weather is beautiful, the sun is shining, and my family (minus Dad) are Home with me. I could beat myself up all day or I could re- ground myself in the present moment and appreciate every breath I have.
I’m making the choice to shift my attention to right here and now… and maybe convince my brother to play with me. :)
Do you beat yourself up over brain burps ? Please give yourself a little grace, regroup, and move forward.
